I put off buying a new laptop forever.Finally gave in and purchased this one.Overall this is a real powerhouse.The hard drive in this laptop is the slowest of everything in the system - rates a 5.9 Windows speed rating.It ships with about 990 GB available and for some reason they combined the 5400 RPM 1 TB drive with the 80 GB MSATA drive together to make up the C drive.Well the speed (or shall I say slowness) of the drive was very noticeable, so the first thing I did was replaced the 1 TB 5400 RPM drive with two 256 GB SATA III SSD drives I already owned - Raid0.This was a very easy swap to make and once completed this machine FLEW!!It comes with 8 GB of memory installed in the front memory slots (the ones that are hard to get to) leaving the back memory slots empty - which kudos to Dell for doing that because it means you can add 16 GB very easily without messing with the front slots.It easily ran The Sims 3, Battlefield 4 and 3, Mass Effect 3 all at the highest settings with ease.The fans are pretty darn quiet - you can barely hear them even when running the games.The front loading DVD drive came in handy when rebuilding the system after performing the hard drive slot, so I am glad it had one.I would purchase this again and I would recommend it as well.Also, it is my understanding that virtually all the hardware can be upgraded if wanted - the CPU is socketable, so you can put in a newer haswell processor if you choose, the dual SLI Nvidia 770M can also be upgrade to 780M's if you should want to - but as the system is now it is plenty powerful in my opinion for years to come.I miss the money I spent on this thing, but I am glad I have it - it easily handles all I have thrown at it.

Fast, Powerful and Stylish. I like this laptop a lot. While a biometric scanner would have been a nice inclusion along with a stable lighting control board those are minor gripes. I do wish it came with a larger data drive. 10GB of data space for backups in not even close to adequate. It is clear that Dell wants to give you a LOT of incentive to purchase their upgrade to the supplied backup program and use their cloud backup services (which is insanely expensive) so at the very least you will be wanting to upgrade the software to allow for scheduled backups. I personally do manual backups to a mapped network drive on my primary desktop.

Great performance. Smooth gameplay/SLI graphics. Cool lighting effects. Nice 1080p HD screen. Features include everything but the kitchen sink. Large capacity SSD+HDD. HDMI is an in/out port. 802.11ac WiFi.

Cons:
Bulky. Heavy. Short battery life.

This is a gaming laptop, so I'm not going to talk about the size and weight of this beast. If you're worried about that, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a top notch gaming machine, then you must consider this Alienware as one of your top choices.

I've always read that Alienware PCs weren't worth the price, and that you can get the same specs for cheaper with MSI or ASUS ROG machines, and that is probably correct. I've owned two ROG laptops, and they were both fast and less expensive than Alienware. The problem with both those laptops, however, is that their touchpads were the worst. The drivers were buggy the first machine I bought in 2012 and the next one I got in 2013. Even some of the USB ports broke on me. When I went looking for a new machine, I decided not to go with ASUS for that reason. Essentially, the parts are excellent, but the build inferior.

So, I took a chance on Alienware. I am SO glad I did. While it costs a bit more than the others, it is also a much superior machine. I know everyone likes pros and cons on reviews, so here we go...

PROS:
**The 18.4 inch screen is both large and beautiful, and in full HD. The brightness is unmatched. Movies look great, and games even better. If you like 3D, you can hook this to your TV via HDMI and enjoy.
**The graphics are excellent. The dual Nvidia GTX 860M cards come with 4gb of memory (2 each) and have handled everything I've thrown at them so far. I got a frame rate of 67 on Bioshock Infinite, for example.
**The heat is non-existent. This thing runs cool, even when gaming.
**The build is outstanding. It simply feels solid in a way that other laptops don't. A magnesium and aluminum chassis give this a solid feel. The hinges are sturdy, the keyboard responsive, and it sports the best touchpad I have ever used on a gaming machine.
**The bells and whistles are all there. This computer LOOKS great. The lighting schemes are programmable and make this about the coolest looking machine there is. It even comes with restore disks--physical CDs--rather than the usual burn-them-yourself restore disks common today.
**16GB of RAM may be overkill, but is sure is nice to have. I can have almost limitless tabs open while gaming, and there's no slow-down.
**This machine puts out some of the best sound I've ever heard in a laptop. powered by Klipsch.

CONS:
--Only one, really. The hard drive, while a spacious 1TB, is just too slow. Even with the 80GB SSD, it still feels sluggish. I am definitely going to replace it with a full SSD, which will replace the only bottleneck in this system.

NEUTRAL:
--It has Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. This is a great OS for gaming, but frankly I am one of those people who really likes Windows 8.
--The DVD burner is slot-loading, which is fine, but why not Blu-Ray?

The price? Well, it's expensive, but you knew that before you read this review. Is it worth it? I'd say definitely yes, if you're looking for a beautifully engineered, top shelf gaming rig. You could save a few hundred with another brand, but you'll sacrifice some quality.

If you can afford it, go for it. You won't regret it.

I had this laptop for over a year now and I love it! It came with Windows 7 and I upgraded to 10. It runs all of my games flawlessly. With the 16 GB memory, it runs fast! Fantastic graphics.

The only problem I had, I let the battery drain completely and the laptop didn't recognize what type battery it has and would not charge it.

I had to remove the battery and reinstall it and it worked.
