8 flexible jobs for stay-at-home moms

Work from home jobs for momsThis is a list of flexible jobs for stay-at-home moms. and I’ll acknowledge that for some women, none of them will be a fit. It’s not a list of flexible jobs for women who are lawyers, pilots, pharmacists, or product managers. The idea here is that there are some opportunities to leverage technology to earn a little money, from home, while watching a baby.

I’m a total believer in outsourcing childcare while working, for the record. Hence, my children are at camp as I type this. However, many moms seek at-home work they can do during naptime, or after bedtime, and flexible work does exist. Some jobs can even be done while pushing a stroller. Seriously.

Dog watching. matches dog owners who need pet sitting with pet lovers who want to help. Create your profile and set your prices. Must be in a city populated enough to find business, but the potential to earn hundreds of dollars per month is there. (Heather in Seattle nets $500 to $1000 per month this way .) does the same thing.

NEW! announced work-from-home jobs. Customer Service positions for Amazon are open. Visit their jobs website and select Work From Home in the location pull down menu to get the job descriptions.

Running errands and other odd jobs. Users of post any task they need help with, ranging from data entry to delivering balloons from a shop to a home. TaskRabbits bid for the jobs and get paid upon completion. I have hired a “Rabbit” to deliver a truck full of diapers to a charity event. My friend Lynn hired a tech-savvy Rabbit to create a themed playlist for a baby shower. If you can handle doing someone’s grocery shopping while you do your own, this could be for you.

Tutoring. My friend Jenny tapped into a high-income community and used her teaching background to earn $40/hour helping with homework. The real money came when she bundled three kids together for group homework sessions, charging each family $25/hr. That’s $75 for an hour of work that can be done while your baby naps. Or, while you pay a teenager $10 to watch the baby in another room. Since Jenny did not pay taxes on this income, I will tell you the truth: Her name is not Jenny.

Secret Shopper. Big companies need real consumers to walk into a store and see how their product is displayed on the shelf. A couple of apps — Rewardable and Gigwalk — enable moms to complete those tasks for a few dollars. Yes, really, set your expectations that it’s just a few dollars, but hey, maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Or maybe you were going to Home Depot anyway, so snapping a picture of the Rustoleum display for $4 is no skin off your back. Expect to get paid via PayPal.

Office and technical work. Upwork is a marketplace for computer-driven work. If you’re a master of Photoshop, Powerpoint, data entry, or other office skills, you can pick up work as you have time. Note that many of the other workers are overseas which drives down the prices.

Not-so-secret shopper, aka Stylist. If you love fashion and love to pick out clothes for other people, StitchFix can use your talents. You’ll use an online system to create boxes for customers based on their fashion profiles.

Sales. If you have the type of enthusiastic personality that rubs off on other people, you might be a good candidate to sell something you love. Companies like Stella & Dot (jewelry) enable women to get a business of the ground really fast. (Bonus: if you sign up with Stella & Dot with our affiliate link, you’ll get $350 in free accessories .) Do you want to be a Style Boss? Learn more .

Meaningful work for progressive employers who want to retain moms. Not kidding. MayBrooks is a job board for flexible positions for moms in select cities. Most positions listed do require childcare, ie a Content Producer for a Venture Capital firm is “demanding” and “competitive” but “most of the work can be done remotely”. MayBrooks also lists some part-time roles, as well as “returnships” for women looking to get back in the workforce after an absence.

Teaching jobs, done via computer from home. Kobe Bryant-backed education company VIPKID allows people to teach English online to students in China, on a flexible, part-time basis. Learn more.

Yes! I’m a stay-at-home mom and started working as a consultant for Usborne Books in January — loving it! I do parties with friends online literally while putting my son to bed, and I did an amazing reading incentive program in my daughter’s school which involved one brief meeting a friend watched my kids during and all the rest was done after they were in bed. Perfect for me right now!

I’m a stay-at-home mom since my first child was born. Now I have two lovely children which I am able to spend more time tending to. I sell wall vinyl decal designs from home.

I currently sell locally to friends, neighbors, acquaintances and anyone I meet. I do drop my business card to folks I meet at the doctor’s office or even a supermarket. I plan to sell online, eventually. But, I am happy with what I am able to make from home, at the moment, while my children still need me.

Most of what I learned about my interior wall design business was from a site called Wall Decal Business.

This is a great list. I would also add Fiverr to the list as you can make $5 for each task that you complete. Trust me, there are a lot of weird task that can get done on Fiverr.

Great list Whitney! Another great option is Amazon FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) There are apps (like Profit Bandit) that will allow you to scan the barcodes of clearance items at local stores and know instantly if the item can be sold for a profit on Amazon. The beauty of FBA is you simply ship all of the items at once to Amazon and they handle picking, packing and shipping your items when they sell so you can get back to being a mom 🙂 I know three people that make a legitimate six-figure income doing this from home.

I’m a former lawyer turned entrepreneur with Rodan+Fields (makers of ProActiv, the acne system). After welcoming my twin girls, I decided traveling, long hours, and dial-ins were no longer for me. I wanted to work from home on a part-time basis and Rodan+Fields has allowed me to do that. If you’re interested in earning a solid part-time income on your own terms, I’d love to talk to you!

I am a STAM working 3 jobs… all part time and from home… (can u believe it?) But really, I started with the mystery shopping, and that was OK. The positive was you get paid, the challenge was not frequently and sometimes needed to wait a month for payment to be transferred to the paypal account. Then I became and infant massage teacher and love this. REDTENTSALE is my Ebay store, I sell so many various items I find from wholesellers and it’s nice, I do this when the kids are asleep; anyone can… very manageable and nice “but light” income. I would say the one by far that is taking me places is Real Estate Marketing.

I have been working at Tried and True Ways to Work From Home for about a year now and they allow you pick and choose your jobs and hours (non-sales and they NEVER ask for money like some of these other WFH places) I want to learn more about affiliate marketing and start my own site/blog. Great list! I have been a stay at home Mom for going on 4 years now. It is absolutely a sacrifice, both emotionally and financially to do so. I started looking into ways I could supplement our income, since my husband gets paid monthly. I do before/after school care most days, then during my free time I float between Amazon mturk and Swagbucks. Neither will make you rich quick.

A free GPT (get paid to) site where you can earn free cash online is WAHM surveys.

I am a work at home mom too and I’ve also tried working part time on Upwork. Not that much as I am still new to it and only had a few working hours per week. But that’s okay, I still get paid for those hours spent doing online jobs. 🙂
